The
relaxed casual, warm and friendly environment of Wilmington's
Coastal Day Spa has attracted everyone from the ordinary to
the extraordinary. This easy going spa has long been a favorite
pampering place for a diverse collection of people ranging from
politicians and waitresses to pagent
gueens, movie
stars and stock clerks. "We see it all", say owners
Jennifer and Jason Saucier. "We have been fortunate in
being regarded as one of those places that's not so trendy as
it is inviting and useful", says Jason who once lived in
Hollywood with Jennifer, and worked in the film industry. Some
days we'll see cast members from television shows such as "Dawson's
Creek" and "One Tree Hill" (both of which Jason
has had guest appearances on) and movies that are filmed locally.
We'll have visiting producers, writers, actors, politicians
etc." "...But our favorites are those down to earth
patrons...whether they are well known or just every day people
like us", Jennifer chimed with a warm smile. "We have
worn so many hats, we can relate to just about anybody".
Jennifer laughed. This statement becomes quite clear as I listen
to the tale of this happy couple's background while enjoying
a specialty tea brought to me by one of the spa's estheticians.
Jason, who started as a fish monger in Savanah Georgia tells
me how he wandered around the country and abroad through his
teens and twenties working odd jobs that seem too diverse and
numerous to be from the same lifetime.
The
couple met in New Orleans while Jennifer was attending Tulane
University where she obtained her degree in business. "I
met 'Bird' (her pet name for Jason) in '87 at 'Fat Harry's',
it's a well know huant in the old Garden District and we've
been together ever since" The couple has amassed a resume
of what they say were failed business attempts. It was with
this entrepenurial spirit that they brought their Spa and Day
